Outer Banks Season 5 gives the Pogues one final treasure hunt before closing their story with revenge, the Royal Merchant gold, and a return home to Kildare Island.
The fifth and final season premiered on Netflix on August 20, 2026, with all 10 episodes available at once. Season 5 begins after JJ Maybank’s death, with John B, Sarah, Kiara, Pope, and Cleo struggling with grief while hunting Chandler Groff, the man responsible for killing him.

The final episodes bring the Pogues’ search for the Blue Crown to Azerbaijan. Kiara believes the legendary artifact could bring JJ back from the dead, so she takes the Crown and performs its ritual during a meteor shower.
JJ does not physically return. Instead, Kiara experiences memories of their childhood and their years together with the Pogues. The moment helps her accept his death and begin moving forward. The Corsairs later take the Blue Crown, meaning the Pogues return home without it.
Their final adventure then shifts back to Kildare Island, where Groff steals the Royal Merchant gold during an approaching hurricane. The treasure takes the story back to Season 1, when the Pogues first found the gold before Ward Cameron took it from them.
Does Kiara kill Groff?
Kiara tracks Groff to a stolen yacht during the hurricane and finally faces the man who killed JJ. Their fight ends when Kiara uses the yacht’s rigging against him, causing a mast to fall on Groff before he sinks beneath the water.
Groff dies, giving Kiara and the rest of the Pogues closure over JJ’s murder.
The yacht carrying the Royal Merchant gold also sinks during the storm. However, Pope calculates where the treasure should have landed, and John B eventually dives into the water and returns holding a gold bar. The Pogues finally recover the treasure worth around $400 million.
Where does everyone end up?
The Pogues use their fortune to rebuild Kildare. John B restores the Chateau, Kiara buys back JJ’s old Maybank property and begins working toward a career in marine biology, while Pope rebuilds Heyward’s Seafood. Pope also reunites with Cleo in the Bahamas, proposes again, and she accepts.
Sarah gives birth to a baby girl whom she and John B name JJ. The couple then officially marries at the rebuilt Chateau, surrounded by friends and family. Rafe leaves the Outer Banks with Sofia but joins the wedding celebration through a FaceTime call shown during the credits.
The final moments bring the Pogues back to the place where their adventure began. After years of treasure hunts, deaths, betrayals, and close escapes, they finally have their home, their friends, and enough money to build new lives.
