Spoilers for Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 2 Episode 3 follow. The new servant at Castle Leathers is Seema, played by Lauren McQueen. She is introduced to the household as a scullery maid, but she is not there only to work in the kitchen. Arch Bug has placed her where she can watch for Henry Beauchamp’s return, and Seema has a personal history with him that Julia does not initially know.
Episode 3 turns a seemingly minor staffing change into a direct threat to Julia’s privacy. Seema can move through the rooms where Julia lives, hear household conversations and report anything that suggests Henry has returned. Her closeness to Lord Lovat also gives her a degree of protection when Julia asks that she be sent away.

Seema knew Henry before she met Julia
Seema met Henry during his long, painful search for Julia in Season 1. After Henry was led to believe that Julia and their unborn child had died, he spent a night with Seema. The connection did not become the future Seema wanted. Henry remained devoted to Julia, and their different understandings of what happened between them left Seema hurt.

That history makes her arrival at Leathers more than a generic spy assignment. Seema knows Henry’s face and has heard him speak about Julia and Claire. Julia, however, has no reason to identify a new maid as someone who was once intimate with her husband. The imbalance lets Seema choose when to reveal what she knows.
Arch Bug has positioned her to watch the household
Bug expects Henry to seek Julia if he manages to return to this time. Seema’s place in the castle makes her useful to him: she can observe the woman Henry is likely to contact and relay news of his appearance. Earlier events show Bug exerting power over Seema by purchasing her bond, so her cooperation should not automatically be mistaken for enthusiastic loyalty.
In Episode 3, Seema tells Julia she once knew Henry intimately and says Bug sent her to keep watch for him. The admission is calculated to unsettle Julia. It also exposes enough of Seema’s mission that Julia asks Lovat to dismiss her. Lovat refuses, saying Seema will remain to guard Julia while he is away. Julia must now live beside someone whose motives she distrusts.
Her loyalty is still an open question
Seema promises to protect Julia and young William, but Episode 3 gives Julia good reason to treat that promise cautiously. Seema has obligations to Bug, access granted by Lovat and unresolved feelings about Henry. None of those facts proves she intends to harm Julia. Together, they make her an unpredictable presence at exactly the place Henry may try to reach.
The new staff member therefore changes the stakes of a possible reunion without deciding its outcome. Henry could find Julia only to discover that someone is already watching for him.
