Ted Lasso is returning to Richmond for a new challenge that gives him another reason to believe. In Season 4, Ted leaves Kansas and heads back to England to coach AFC Richmond’s newly formed second-division women’s football team.
Apple TV has confirmed that Ted Lasso Season 4 will premiere globally on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. The season will begin with one episode, followed by a new episode every Wednesday until the finale on October 7.

Ted Lasso Season 3 ended with Ted returning to Kansas so that he could stay close to his son, Henry. AFC Richmond completed an impressive Premier League campaign but narrowly missed winning the title, while Roy Kent became the club’s new head coach.
Rebecca also considered expanding Richmond by creating a women’s team. That idea appeared briefly during the finale, but it now forms the main story of Season 4.
Ted’s departure gave the third season a clear emotional ending. He had helped rebuild Richmond, repaired several important relationships and found a healthier way to manage his anxiety. However, his connection to the club remained strong.
Why does Ted return to Richmond?

The exact event that convinces Ted to leave Kansas has not been fully revealed. However, the story setup suggests that Rebecca contacts him when Richmond’s women’s project needs an experienced leader who can build confidence and create a united dressing room.
Ted also understands how it feels to enter an unfamiliar football environment. He arrived in England without knowing the rules of the sport, faced public criticism and slowly earned the trust of his players. Those experiences make him a natural choice for a team trying to establish its identity.
Henry could also influence Ted’s decision. Grant Feely joins the returning story as Henry, while early Season 4 images show Ted’s family connections remaining important. This suggests the series will explain how Ted balances fatherhood with his return to Richmond rather than ignoring the reason he originally went home.
What will happen to AFC Richmond’s men’s team?
Roy Kent will likely continue leading the men’s team while Ted focuses on the women’s side. This setup allows Roy to remain independent as a manager while still turning to Ted, Rebecca, Keeley and Coach Beard when new problems appear.
