Helene eventually returns to Denmark, where she discovers that she was married to Edmund and has a son named Alexander. As fragments of her memory return, she also realizes that Edmund has been manipulating her and desperately wants to stop her from remembering what happened before she disappeared.
Edmund drugs Helene and later has her placed in a psychiatric facility. However, Helene secretly avoids taking the medication and finally remembers the night that changed everything.
Who was the real Louise Andersen?
One of the biggest twists reveals that Louise Andersen was a real person.
Louise had discovered that women were being trafficked through shipping containers connected to the Söderberg business. She collected evidence on an SD card hidden inside a mirror and tried to escape with Helene.
Edmund caught up with them and hit Louise with his car, killing her. Helene then jumped from a bridge onto a passing ship to escape.
Her injuries caused severe memory loss. Since she had Louise’s belongings with her, Helene eventually began living under Louise’s identity without understanding what had happened.
Who was behind the human trafficking operation?
Helene eventually recovers the SD card and learns that Edmund was involved in the trafficking operation. However, the conspiracy goes back much further.
Her father, Aksel Söderberg, had originally been involved with the criminal operation through the family shipping business. Before his death, he confessed the truth to Helene.
Caroline, Edmund’s mother, also knew about the operation and had been connected to Aksel for decades.
Who killed Aksel Söderberg?
The finale reveals that Caroline killed Aksel by pushing him down the stairs.
Caroline had previously been Aksel’s secretary and lover. She later pushed Edmund into the family business and became determined to protect her son’s position.
When Helene confronts Edmund with evidence of the trafficking operation, Caroline attacks her and demands that Edmund kill Helene. Edmund refuses.
A struggle follows, and Helene hits Edmund with a lamp. Edmund crashes into Caroline, sending her through a window to her death.
Police arrive soon afterward, while Edmund’s crimes are finally exposed.
How does The Secret Woman end?
Authorities eventually recover the real Louise Andersen’s body, bringing the mystery surrounding her disappearance to an end.
Helene leaves the Söderberg world behind and starts building a new life with Joachim and Alexander. She still has gaps in her memory, although the final scene shows that pieces of her old life are slowly returning.
The ending also explains why Helene became Louise in the first place. She never deliberately created a fake identity. Trauma, memory loss, and Louise’s belongings gave her an entirely different life after she escaped Edmund.
The Secret Woman throws plenty of twists into its closing minutes, but Helene finally learns what happened to her, exposes the people responsible, and gets another chance with Joachim and her son.
