Spoilers through Trespasses Episode 3 follow. Episode 4 arrives on PBS on Sunday, October 11, 2026, and it begins with Cushla grieving rather than trying to contain the damage alone. PBS says she confides in Gerry and Gina, making her family the immediate center of the finale’s emotional response.
That is a significant change for Cushla. Her relationship with Michael has depended on secrecy, compartmentalization and the belief that she can move between private desire and public danger. The tragedy at the end of Episode 3 destroys that illusion and forces her to accept help from the people who know her best.

Cushla finally tells Gerry and Gina what she is carrying
The official episode description is brief but revealing: a grieving Cushla confides in Gerry and Gina. Gina has spent the season recognizing dangers that Cushla would rather minimize, while Gerry represents the family bond that political violence has repeatedly tested. Speaking to both of them means Cushla can no longer treat the consequences as a secret shared only with Michael.

Confession will not automatically repair those relationships. Gina has already seen how the affair exposes Cushla, and Gerry has his own reasons to distrust the world surrounding Michael. The finale must show whether grief brings the Lavery family closer or turns concern into judgment.
Michael cannot separate love from the Troubles
Michael’s work as a barrister has always made him vulnerable to both communities, and his marriage adds another barrier between him and Cushla. Episode 3 demonstrates that their private choices exist inside a conflict that can make ordinary contact dangerous. The next chapter has to test whether their relationship offers refuge or creates another risk Cushla cannot survive.
The important question is not simply whether the couple remains together. It is whether Michael can give Cushla anything more stable than meetings shaped by fear and secrecy. Her decision to turn to family first suggests that his promises may no longer be enough.
The finale has to define Cushla’s next life
Trespasses has presented Cushla as someone pushing against the limits placed on her by religion, family and sectarian politics. Grief changes the terms of that rebellion. She now has to decide what she can protect, what she must leave behind and whether love is still worth the cost imposed by the world around her.
Episode 4 runs about 48 minutes and closes the four-part adaptation. The ending therefore needs to resolve the immediate emotional crisis even if the wider conflict remains beyond any character’s control.
