Apple is getting ready to open a massive new retail space in Zurich. Recent building permits show that the company plans to take over a large heritage building near a famous local shopping street. The current store in the area was only meant to be a temporary location because of accessibility issues with the front entrance.
Now, the technology brand is preparing to establish a much larger and more permanent footprint in the city.
Construction on the huge historic retail space finishes next year
The new shop will sit at the corner of Lintheschergasse and Usteristrasse. Permits reveal that the total retail area could reach around two thousand square meters. If the company uses both the ground level and the upper floors for daily sales, this location will easily rank among its biggest storefronts across Europe.
Documents indicate the property commands an estimated rent of roughly sixteen hundred dollars per square meter every month. This is a major investment that will give shoppers a lot more room to test out new hardware and get technical support.
Because the chosen building is a protected historical site, the company cannot drastically change the outside architecture. Instead, it will carefully update the ground floor facade with fresh champagne colored metal panels and modern window frames. The classic concrete pillars matching the upper levels will stay exactly as they are to preserve the original look of the neighborhood.
Work on the building is scheduled to start in November 2026 and should wrap up by May 2027. Shoppers can likely expect the new doors to open sometime next summer. Until then, the company will continue operating its other established retail spots across the country.
