Apple has released iOS 26.6 public beta 1 for iPhone users. The update arrives just days after the first developer beta and appears to focus mainly on small security improvements and system refinements ahead of WWDC 2026.
So far, iOS 26.6 does not include major new features. Apple is now shifting attention toward iOS 27, which is expected to be officially unveiled during WWDC on June 8. Still, iOS 26.6 will serve as the next stable update for iPhone users before the next major software cycle begins.

All the changes
Apple has introduced a few smaller but useful changes in the first iOS 26.6 beta. One of the biggest discoveries is a new warning system for blocked contacts. Users will now see an alert after reaching the blocked contacts limit on iPhone, making it easier to understand why they cannot block additional numbers.
Reports suggest the limit may be around 20,000 blocked contacts. Apple also appears to be working on a new anti-theft security feature tied to Apple Maps protections, although the company has not yet officially detailed how the system works. Apart from that, the update mainly focuses on bug fixes, security improvements, and overall stability as Apple prepares for the transition to iOS 27 later this year.
Apple is expected to spend the summer testing iOS 27 before its public release in September alongside the next iPhone lineup. Compared to last year’s beta schedule, iOS 26.6 beta 1 has arrived slightly earlier in the cycle.
