A new unboxing video just gave us our best look yet at what could be the final designs for the highly anticipated iPhone Ultra and the standard iPhone 18 Pro Max. With Apple getting ready for its big September showcase, these dummy units shipped straight from China show some major clues. It looks like its upcoming lineup might feature some serious hardware changes, especially for the heavily rumored foldable model.
The foldable device looks much closer to a finished product
Host Lewis Hilsenteger from Unbox Therapy recently showcased these leaked units on YouTube, giving fans a glimpse of what to expect at the upcoming Surprise and Shine event. Unlike earlier rough mockups, this new foldable dummy unit feels way more complete. You can easily spot a faint logo on the back, tactile buttons, and realistic speaker grilles on the frame.
Design-wise, it leans into a wider passport-style form factor. It shares some visual similarities with the Galaxy Z Fold 8, but brings its own distinct flavor. The unit features a two-lens camera array and blends both rounded and sharp corners.

The video notes that while the sharp edges might feel a bit harsh in the palm of your hand, the overall thickness feels highly realistic for a folding phone. It is also noticeably shorter and stubbier than a standard smartphone.
The flagship Pro Max sticks to a very familiar design
Moving over to the iPhone 18 Pro Max, the updates feel much more incremental. If you are familiar with the previous generation, you will feel right at home here. The back keeps the signature edge-to-edge camera plateau with multiple lenses and an LED light tucked on the right side. Unsurprisingly, it stands significantly taller than the folded device.
The main discussion from the video comes down to the new color options. The star of the unboxing is a dark cherry color, which might serve as the standout shade for this release. Hilsenteger also showed off a metallic blue hue, alongside the usual silver and space black versions. Even though these are just dummy models, they give a highly reliable preview of what accessory makers are prepping for right now.
Minor design tweaks could still happen before the big reveal, but this gives a really solid idea of what we will see on stage in a few days.
