Apple Reportedly Cleaning Up macOS 27 After Tahoe’s “Not Completely Baked” UI

Apple Releases Ninth macOS Tahoe 26 Beta for Developers

Apple is preparing a “slight redesign” for macOS 27 as the company works to refine the Liquid Glass interface introduced with macOS Tahoe, according to a new report from Mark Gurman. The update will reportedly focus on fixing readability complaints, improving transparency effects, and making the overall interface feel more polished ahead of its official reveal at WWDC 2026 on June 8.

In his Power On newsletter, Gurman said Apple’s design team originally intended Liquid Glass to look cleaner and more refined than what users received in macOS Tahoe. He wrote that the current version did not suffer from “design problems,” but instead from a “not completely baked implementation” by Apple’s software engineering team. That detail explains why macOS 27 reportedly focuses on cleaning up “shadows and transparency quirks” instead of abandoning the design language entirely.

The report says Apple plans to reduce some of the aggressive transparency effects that made sidebars and interface elements harder to read in Tahoe apps. Users who disliked poor contrast on Mac screens will likely notice the biggest improvements once macOS 27 arrives later this year.

Outside of the visual changes, Apple is also working on software reliability and efficiency improvements across macOS 27 and iOS 27. Gurman described “code cleanup” as a major theme internally, while Apple is expected to highlight better performance and longer battery life during the announcement.

Another notable addition involves Safari. Apple is reportedly testing an AI-powered “Organize Tabs” feature that automatically groups tabs for users across macOS 27, iOS 27, and iPadOS 27. Gurman said test versions already include a new option that lets users choose whether automatic grouping stays enabled.

Apple will unveil macOS 27 during its WWDC 2026 keynote on June 8, while the first developer beta will likely arrive immediately after the event.

  • Apple’s arrogance is boundless. The UI made Apple and it will break Apple. They are rolling in money and that’s what they deem important. It doesn’t matter what the User needs or likes. Apple declares something beautiful and the User shall buy. Until they don’t. Apple used to listen. Now they demand.

  • Saying that Tahoe doesn’t suffer from “design problems, is inaccurate at best & purposefully deceitful at worst with a little hypocrisy & some self delusion thrown in. Apple seems to have been gradually violating its own design standards for years. The OS is becoming more frame than picture.
