Apple Rolls Out watchOS 8.8.2 and watchOS 5.3.10 for Older Apple Watch Models

Apple releases watchOS 8.8.2 and 5.3.10 for older Apple Watch models, bringing stability updates and continued support for legacy devices.

Apple released watchOS 8.8.2 and watchOS 5.3.10 on March 24, 2026, alongside the wider 26.4 software rollout, giving older Apple Watch models another update path for users who are still staying on earlier software. The two releases target older hardware rather than current watchOS 26 devices, so they matter most if you have an older Apple Watch paired with an older iPhone.

watchOS 8.8.2 carries build number 19U526 and is available for Apple Watch Series 3, Series 4, Series 5, Series 6, Series 7, and Apple Watch SE. watchOS 5.3.10 carries build number 16U711 and is available for Apple Watch Series 1, Series 2, Series 3, and Series 4. Apple’s security releases page says both updates have no published CVE entries, which usually means Apple has not listed specific security fixes publicly for these versions.

If you use one of these older models and do not want to move to a newer software branch yet, this is the update to install. Apple appears to be keeping support alive for legacy devices while continuing full development on watchOS 26 for newer Apple Watches.

How to update in short steps

Updating your Apple Watch is simple, but you need to keep a few basics in place first. Make sure your iPhone is connected to Wi-Fi, keep your Apple Watch on its charger, and ensure the watch has at least 50% battery before starting. Apple says the latest main watchOS release is 26.4, but these older branches remain available for compatible legacy hardware.

  1. Open the Watch app on your iPhone
  2. Tap General
  3. Tap Software Update
  4. Download and install the update shown for your watch
  5. Keep the Apple Watch on its charger until installation finishes

All the Changes

These updates look small, and Apple has not published feature-level release notes for them so far. Based on Apple’s security releases page and the broader rollout pattern for older software versions released on the same day, here is what users should expect.

  • Support for older Apple Watch models: watchOS 8.8.2 and watchOS 5.3.10 are meant for legacy Apple Watch hardware that cannot follow the latest watchOS branch.
  • No published CVE entries: Apple has not listed public CVE security entries for either release at the time of writing.
  • Likely stability-focused update: Since Apple has not highlighted any new features, this release appears focused on maintenance, compatibility, and overall system reliability for older devices. This is an inference based on Apple’s published notes and the lack of feature callouts.
  • Released with the 26.4 family of updates: That timing suggests Apple wanted to update both current and older device branches on the same day.

If you are still using an older Apple Watch, this is a useful update to grab because Apple is clearly still maintaining these devices, even while its newest software branch moves ahead. Let us know in the comments if your Apple Watch received watchOS 8.8.2 or watchOS 5.3.10.

  • Apple watch series 4. Update to 8.8.2 completed when my watch was on the charger and in Bluetooth range of my iPhone. It took about30 minutes to complete the update.

  • I have a series 5 which was acting up a little the other day so took it for a Genius Bar appointment and they couldn’t find any issues apart from battery health being at 72% and needing an update.
Just trying to update and it’s taking a while but says it’s preparing watchOS 10.6.2 for installation.
