Apple Wallet Car Key support coming to Rivian, Smart, and Voyah

Apple is prepping Wallet’s Car Key for three more brands: Rivian, Smart, and Voyah. Backend flags spotted today indicate Apple’s side is ready, with launches now dependent on each automaker flipping the final switch.

At WWDC in June, Apple said 13 additional brands would “soon” support Car Key, a list that included Acura, Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC, Porsche, Rivian, Smart, Lucid, Tata Motors, Hongqi, WEY, Chery, and Voyah. Today’s backend changes suggest the first wave is about to roll out.

This rollout typically happens in two steps: Apple enables support in Wallet, then the carmaker activates it for specific models and regions. That sequencing appears to be what we’re seeing now.

Rivian looks particularly close. Apple’s side for the second-gen R1S and R1T was recently activated, and Rivian told reporters the feature is “coming soon” on its end. (9to5Mac)

Car Key lets you unlock and start a compatible vehicle with your iPhone or Apple Watch, often via Express Mode and Ultra Wideband for passive entry, with the option to share keys digitally.
