Apple Wallet’s driver’s license feature is slowly expanding across the United States, with several more states now preparing to support digital IDs on iPhone and Apple Watch. Apple first announced the feature at WWDC 2021, and the rollout has continued state by state since then.

At present, users in 14 states and Puerto Rico can add a driver’s license or state ID to Apple Wallet, while several other states have confirmed plans, appeared in Apple code, or previously joined Apple’s list of partners.

These states are expected to support Apple Wallet IDs next

The Secure Technology Alliance also tracks mobile driver’s license efforts across the US, including states that are studying digital ID programs or working on related legislation.

Those states currently include Indiana, Vermont, New Jersey, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri, Nevada, and Wyoming, although none has been directly tied to Apple Wallet support yet.

Apple also offers a separate Digital ID feature based on a US passport, which lets eligible users present identification from their iPhone at TSA checkpoints at more than 250 US airports.

Apple Wallet ID support remains uneven across the country, but the growing list of participating and interested states shows that digital identification continues to expand across the US.
