Apple Watch Readiness Arrives Monday, and the Health App That Summarizes It Has No Date

Readiness reaches Apple Watch on Monday, September 14, when watchOS 27 ships free. The place Apple has designed to summarize it, the redesigned Health app on iPhone, is dated only later this year, in US English, on devices that support Apple Intelligence.

So the 0 to 10 score and its four recommendations are a watch feature first, with a phone half that Apple has not dated. A Series 12 or Ultra 4 buyer picking up a watch on Friday gets the app; the Insights tab that folds readiness in with heart, sleep, fitness, vitals and cycle tracking comes when Apple says it does.

What Monday actually delivers

watchOS 27 is free and runs on Apple Watch SE 3, Series 9 and later and Ultra 2 and later, and it needs an iPhone 11 or later, or an iPhone SE, running iOS 27. Apple lists the Readiness app itself on the Series 12 and Ultra 4 pages and nowhere in its watchOS 27 feature list, and it has not said whether any older watch gets the app.

On the watch, Readiness is a score built from recent activity, training load, vitals and sleep, arriving each morning with one of four recommendations and updating during the day. Apple publishes no threshold connecting the number to the wording, and no weighting for the four inputs.

What waits for the Health app

The redesigned Health app is the larger piece of the announcement and the one with no date. Apple’s wording is that it “will be available later this year, starting in U.S. English, with more languages to follow,” and it names Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone and iPad models as the requirement. Some features need users to be 18 or over.

Health app featureWhat Apple published about it
Insights tabReal-time summaries across heart, sleep, readiness, fitness, vitals and cycle tracking, plus a For You section
Longevity tabLong-term analysis across seven categories: heart health, sleep, mental wellbeing, movement health, metabolic health, hearing, nutrition
Health AgeBuilt from VO2 max, resting heart rate, sleep and HRV; lab values such as A1c and LDL can be added; requires Apple Watch
Movement evaluationsFlexibility, strength, balance, mechanics and VO2 max; on device, no video recorded, stored or shared
VO2 max test hardwareApple Watch, AirPods Pro 3 or a third-party heart rate device
LabsOver 50 key biomarkers for $119 at approximately 2,000 Quest Diagnostics locations in the US
Language and regionUS English first, and Apple adds that not all features are available on all devices or in all regions

Why the split is worth knowing before Friday

Two things follow from the two dates, and neither is advice about what to buy. The first is that a watch bought on Friday does its Readiness work on the watch, so the score does not depend on an app that has not shipped. The second is that the wider context Apple demonstrated, the trends, the Longevity tab and Health Age, is not part of what arrives this week.

It is also the reason to treat the score as what Apple calls it. Apple claims no regulatory clearance for Readiness, Health Age or movement evaluations, and it labels the Vitals app as being for wellness purposes only and not for medical use. None of these numbers is a diagnosis.

What Apple has not said

  • Any date for the redesigned Health app beyond later this year.
  • Which languages follow US English, or when.
  • Whether Readiness on the watch is itself limited to US English at launch.
  • Whether readiness appears in the Insights tab for watches Apple has not named.
  • Which Health app features require users to be 18 or over.
  • Whether Health Age and Readiness share any input beyond HRV and sleep.

watchOS 27 and iOS 27 both arrive free on Monday, September 14, and Series 12 and Ultra 4 reach stores on Friday, September 18. The Health app date is the one to watch for next, and Apple has given no narrower window than the rest of 2026. Our event recap and Series 12 preview cover the rest of the announcement.
