Apple’s own specs page for Apple Watch Series 12 lists two different weights for the ceramic case, and size is not the reason. At each of the two case sizes, the Night Blue ceramic model is listed as heavier than the Pearl White ceramic model, the only two ceramic finishes Apple sells this year.
The gap is small, roughly a gram at the 42mm size and closer to a gram and a half at 46mm, and it sits quietly inside a spec table rather than in any marketing claim. Apple has not explained why the same case, in the same material and the same size, comes out heavier in one color than the other. Ceramic joins aluminum and titanium as a case material option on Apple Watch Series 12 for the first time this year.

What Apple’s specs page lists
Apple’s tech specs page for Apple Watch Series 12 breaks weight down by material, by size, and for ceramic, by color. Both ceramic finishes share the same listed case depth, 9.85mm, and the same sapphire crystal front. The dimensions column is identical between Pearl White and Night Blue at both sizes. Weight is the only place the two colors part ways, and they part by more than a rounding error: 1.1 grams at 42mm, 1.6 grams at 46mm.

Ceramic is the heaviest material tier Apple lists for Series 12 at both sizes, ahead of titanium and well ahead of aluminum, which tracks with what a denser case material would be expected to weigh. What does not track as neatly is how unevenly Apple applies a color-based split. Aluminum ships in four finishes this year, dark bronze, black, light gold and space gray, and Apple publishes exactly one weight per size for all four. Titanium ships in two finishes, radiant gold and natural, and again gets one weight per size. Ceramic ships in two finishes, Pearl White and Night Blue, and is the only material of the three where Apple’s page lists two different weights for the two colors. Aluminum’s only published weight split is between the GPS model and the GPS-plus-Cellular model, not between any of its four colors.
A smaller version of the same pattern on Ultra 4
Apple Watch Ultra 4, sold only in titanium, shows a smaller version of the same thing. Apple’s page lists the Natural finish at 63.0 grams and the Black finish at 63.1 grams, a tenth of a gram apart. That is a fraction of the Series 12 ceramic gap, but it confirms Apple’s spec pages track watch weight down to a tenth of a gram, and that even a single-material, two-color titanium case does not land on an identical number between finishes. Series 12’s ceramic gap is more than ten times the size of Ultra 4’s titanium one.
Two colors, one material, two different numbers
Nothing else on the Series 12 specs page changes between Pearl White and Night Blue ceramic. Both get the same sapphire crystal, the same 50-meter water resistance, the same battery and charging figures, the same sensor list, the same band fit range. Weight is the one line where choosing a color, on paper, means choosing a different number, and it is not a number a wearer would notice on the wrist. A gram or a gram and a half will not change how a watch feels, but it is exactly the kind of figure a spec page states precisely enough to compare, which is what makes the gap worth pointing at rather than ignoring. The full September 9 event introduced ceramic as a Series 12 option alongside aluminum and titanium, without a word on why its two colors weigh differently.
What Apple has not said
Apple has not said whether the ceramic weight gap comes from the ceramic body itself, from a pigment or glaze layer, or from a measurement variance that Apple’s process treats as real enough to publish separately for each color. It has not published a tolerance range for either figure, and it has not addressed the gap in any marketing material for Apple Watch Series 12. Apple Watch Series 12 in ceramic reaches stores Friday, September 18, alongside Apple Watch Ultra 4 and AirPods 5, with the two published weights unchanged since Apple’s own launch materials went live.
