Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 Bands: The Compass Warning, New Materials and Prices Apple Has Not Published

Apple lists a full band lineup for both Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, down to specific colors and materials, but its own pages stop short of a price for any of them. Apple’s Series 12 release, its Ultra 4 release, and its longstanding Compass guidance answer most of what buyers are asking about bands before September 18.

This piece uses only Apple’s own newsroom material for the band names, colors and materials, plus Apple’s published Compass advice. It does not use any price that has not appeared on an Apple page.

WatchBand families Apple names
Apple Watch Series 12Sport Band (olive, burgundy, wildflower blue, pale succulent); Sport Loop (chambray blue, magenta, burgundy plaid, light umber plaid); Milanese Loop (radiant gold, dark bronze); Modern Buckle (new woven material, gold hardware option)
Apple Watch Ultra 4Trail Loop (dark umber, sand, burgundy); Alpine Loop (desert, dark olive, burgundy); Ocean Band (translucent gray, translucent kelp, translucent black)

Does Apple say which bands work with which watch?

Yes, by name. Apple’s Series 12 release lists the Sport Band, Sport Loop, Milanese Loop and Modern Buckle as that watch’s band families. Its Ultra 4 release lists Trail Loop, Alpine Loop and Ocean Band as that watch’s families instead. Apple has not published a combined chart showing lug or case-size compatibility beyond naming which family belongs to which watch.

What is the Compass warning Apple attaches to one of its own bands?

Apple’s longstanding guidance on the Compass app warns that bands with magnetic closures can throw off the reading, and the Milanese Loop, now offered for Series 12 in radiant gold and dark bronze, is exactly the band style that guidance targets. Apple’s advice for a Compass reading that looks wrong is to remove a magnetic band or move away from magnetic objects nearby. This is not a defect unique to this year’s watch; it is a property of that band type that simply carries over into the new lineup. Apple’s own guidance frames it as a calibration quirk to work around, not a fault to send the watch back for, and it applies regardless of which case size or material the band is paired with.

What new band materials does Apple list this year?

The Modern Buckle for Series 12 moves to a new woven material, with a gold hardware option Apple did not previously offer. The Sport Loop’s plaid colorways, chambray blue, magenta, burgundy plaid and light umber plaid, use a new inkjet-printing process, per Apple’s release. Ultra 4’s Ocean Band switches to a new silicone material across its three translucent colors. None of these material changes come with a stated durability or comfort claim beyond the color and material names themselves; Apple’s release does not compare any of them to last year’s equivalent band.

What does a Sport Band, Sport Loop, Milanese Loop or Trail Loop actually cost?

Apple has not published a price for any of them. The $399 and $799 “From” prices cover only the single band each watch ships with in the box. Apple’s press materials and specification pages list colors and materials for every band family without a dollar figure attached to any of them, for either watch.

Does the Hermes edition include a price?

No. Apple’s Series 12 release names the Hermes radiant gold titanium finish, the Noir satin Clou de Selle band, and a new Rocabar Club band with a three-dimensional H pattern, without pricing any of the three. Apple has priced Hermes Apple Watch models separately from the standard lineup in past years; it has not done so yet for this generation.

What Apple has not said

  • A price for any individual band, on either watch
  • A combined chart of band compatibility across all three Series 12 case sizes
  • Any price for the Hermes Series 12 or Hermes Ultra 4 collection

Those figures typically surface once Apple’s online store lets shoppers build a specific order, which is not the same as Apple publishing them outright. As of September 12, 2026, the band names and materials above are everything Apple has said in writing, ahead of the September 18 in-store date.
