Apple’s tech specs page for Apple Watch Ultra 4 lists two separate temperature figures, not one. A 0 to 35 degrees Celsius (32 to 95 Fahrenheit) range covers general operation, while a wider band, -20 to 55 degrees Celsius (-4 to 130 Fahrenheit), is listed specifically for wearing the watch on the wrist. Apple’s page states both numbers without describing what happens if either is crossed.
The two figures answer different questions, and Apple keeps them as separate line items on the same spec sheet rather than combining them into a single operating range. That split is worth noting on its own, before any comparison to what Apple publishes, or does not, for its other current watches.

Two ranges, one watch
Apple’s spec sheet lists the on-wrist figure and the operating figure as separate rows rather than a single tolerance. The on-wrist range is the wider of the two, which fits a product Apple markets for continuous, all-day wear including outdoor workouts. The narrower 0 to 35 C figure sits alongside it as its own documented limit, without a note explaining why the two differ or which one governs a given function of the watch.

Neither figure appears in Apple’s September 9 press release for Ultra 4. Both come from the tech specs page Apple publishes alongside the announcement, the same page that lists the watch’s water rating, chip and battery figures.
What Apple says about going outside either range
Nothing beyond the numbers themselves. Apple’s spec sheet states the two ranges as published limits and does not add guidance about performance, charging behavior or any other consequence of operating the watch outside them. Where a figure is not explained further, we report only the figure and note the absence of elaboration, rather than filling the gap with a guess.
Apple’s spec sheet also lists Ultra 4 as MIL-STD 810H tested, a separate line item from either temperature figure. Apple does not state which, if either, of the two temperature ranges that testing standard maps to, so we report the claim as its own line rather than folding it into the operating or on-wrist figures above.
Where Series 12 and SE 3 leave the same question open
Both Series 12 and SE 3 carry their own published water and dust ratings, so the gap is specific to temperature rather than a general absence of environmental claims on those two spec sheets.
Apple’s Ultra 4 tech specs page is the only one of the three current Apple Watch spec sheets in the material we checked that states an operating range or an on-wrist range at all. Neither figure appears in the published specifications we have for Apple Watch Series 12 or Apple Watch SE 3.

- Whether charging has its own temperature limit separate from the two figures above.
- Matching operating or on-wrist ranges for Series 12 or SE 3.
