Google has quietly added new customization options to Chrome’s New Tab Page on iOS. The feature lets users set wallpapers and theme colors in the same way Chrome on desktop already allows.
Until now, Chrome on iOS has offered limited customization for the start page. Google is now addressing that. The ability to personalize the New Tab Page is available out of the box in Chrome beta, without the need to dig into settings or enable flags.
How to Customize the New Tab Page in Chrome on iPhone
Tap the pencil icon at the top left of the screen, and Chrome opens the “Customize Home Page” panel. You can notice several wallpapers already available to choose from. Tapping the “+” icon gives access to “Themes”, “Camera Roll”, and “Colours”. You can apply a preset design, use an image from your gallery, or select a color scheme to match your style.
The layout mirrors Chrome’s desktop customization menu. You can apply wallpapers, themes, or color combinations with the same ease, which gives the browser a more personal look.
This is the first time Chrome on iOS allows for detailed customization of the New Tab Page beyond light or dark mode. It gives every user the ability to decide how their homepage appears and offers full control over it.
Google is expected to roll out these New Tab Page customization features to iPhone and iPad users soon in the stable release.
You should be aware that Google already offers the same level of customization in Chrome for Android, although it currently requires enabling specific flags. The company is now working to make the customization experience consistent across desktop and mobile versions of Chrome.
Google is not stopping here. Chrome on iOS could soon gain Gemini and Reading Mode in future versions.
