Claude in Chrome is becoming a more complete part of Anthropic’s wider Claude experience, with browser conversations now saved to user history and available across the desktop, web, and mobile apps. The change turns the Chrome side panel into a full Claude Cowork session, so users can start a task in the browser and continue it later from another device or app without losing the conversation.
Anthropic says the updated side panel also supports the skills and connectors already linked to a Claude account, which means users do not need to configure them again inside Chrome. Claude can see the current webpage and work with websites where the user is already signed in, including clicking links, entering text, moving between pages, and filling out forms.

Claude browser tasks now follow users across apps
The biggest change is session continuity, because Claude in Chrome previously kept its side panel conversations separate from the main Claude apps. With Cowork support, the session now stays tied to the user’s account, allowing longer tasks to move between Chrome, desktop, web, and mobile.
Anthropic gives the example of collecting invoice details from several vendor portals, building a spreadsheet, then opening the same session in the desktop app to add local files or compare the results with an earlier budget. This setup also gives Claude access to websites and internal tools that do not have direct connectors but still work through the browser.
The Chrome extension uses the user’s existing browser logins, while Claude Code’s in-app browser runs through an isolated profile. Users still need the Claude desktop app when they want Claude to work with files stored locally or interact with other desktop applications.
Anthropic adds more checks for browser actions
Anthropic also warns that browser agents remain exposed to prompt injection, where hidden instructions inside webpages, emails, or documents try to redirect the AI into taking unintended actions.
The company says automatic approval now includes a separate check before consequential actions such as submitting forms, sending messages, or downloading files. Claude still asks for direct approval before purchases or sharing personal information.
The new Cowork side panel is available now for Max and Team users, while Pro access will roll out over the coming weeks. Enterprise administrators can enable the feature and restrict it to approved domains, while support for other Chromium browsers and mobile browsers is still unavailable.
