General Motors is bringing Apple CarPlay and Android Auto back to two of its biggest pickup trucks. The company says the updated infotainment experience will arrive in the 2027 Chevrolet Silverado and 2027 GMC Sierra, reversing its recent move away from phone projection in new EVs.
GM announced the change alongside a new pickup-truck interface that puts its native software alongside both projection systems. For drivers who prefer CarPlay, that means the iPhone interface can again handle familiar navigation, audio, calls and messages on the truck’s main display.
What GM is changing
GM says the redesigned experience is meant to make it easier to move between the vehicle’s own controls and the apps on a connected phone. The company is presenting that as a choice, rather than asking drivers to replace CarPlay with GM software.

The announcement does not mean every recent GM vehicle has changed direction. GM needs to confirm compatibility model by model, and buyers should check the configuration page for the exact truck and trim they are considering.
CarPlay remains a useful option because it brings a driver’s existing iPhone apps and account setup into the vehicle without requiring a separate in-car service. Apple is also expanding the system with CarPlay Ultra, though GM did not announce Ultra support for these pickups.
GM has not published a full availability schedule, pricing or trim-by-trim equipment list beyond identifying the 2027 Silverado and Sierra. More details should follow closer to the trucks’ launch.
