Google is actively rolling out several interface changes to the Gemini app, making it easier for users to manage the artificial intelligence software. The recent updates focus on fine-tuning how you interact with the assistant, removing redundant options, and offering better control over the types of alerts you receive. These changes are currently being phased in across Android devices.
The model picker menu gets a cleaner look
One of the most noticeable changes is within the app’s model picker dropdown menu. Previously, when selecting how the AI processed information, the menu offered a “Standard” option alongside an “Extended Thinking” option under the “Thinking Level” section. Since the standard level was the default setting anyway, Google has removed it entirely to reduce visual clutter. Now, the menu simply features a single option to toggle the extended thinking mode on or off when you need the AI to tackle more complex reasoning tasks.

Additionally, the Gemini Spark feature, which recently expanded to more regions, is also receiving a UI refresh. The top navigation bar now displays helpful category chips such as “All,” “Scheduled,” and “Needs input.” To clean up the interface further, the standard menu button in the top-right corner has been replaced by a simple search icon, allowing users to quickly look through their ongoing tasks.
Users gain more granular control over notifications
The update also brings helpful additions to the main app settings, specifically regarding how the software communicates with you. Users will now find dedicated notification toggles for several specific categories. You can now easily enable or disable alerts for your Daily Brief, scheduled actions, responses, and product updates or tips.
These toggles are turned on by default after the update. However, they provide much-needed flexibility for users who prefer a quieter phone. If you do not want the app constantly buzzing your device with tips or feature announcements, you can simply switch off that specific category while still receiving important alerts about your scheduled tasks.
