iPhone Air 2 Rumor Points to a 5.2mm Body as Thin as an Open iPhone Duo

Apple Is Testing a Thinner Face ID System for iPhone Air 2, Says Report

Apple’s next iPhone Air could be approximately 0.4mm thinner than the current model, according to a new supply-chain rumor. If accurate, the change would put iPhone Air 2 near 5.2mm, roughly matching the thickness of iPhone Duo when Apple’s foldable is fully open.

The claim comes from the yeux1122 account on Korean blog Naver. The account has a mixed record, and Apple has not announced iPhone Air 2, its measurements, battery capacity or launch date.

Apple lists the current iPhone Air at 5.64mm and the open iPhone Duo at 5.2mm. Subtracting the reported 0.4mm reduction produces about 5.24mm, so the comparison is mathematically plausible even though the future product dimension remains unverified.

The battery claim makes the rumor harder to judge

The same rumor cycle points to a higher-capacity battery in the thinner phone. Fitting more battery into less depth would require changes to cell chemistry, internal packaging or other components. No inspected specification establishes how Apple would achieve that combination.

The Mac Observer’s iPhone Duo and iPhone Air comparison documents the current measurements. The Duo is thinner only while open and becomes 11.3mm thick when folded, while the Air maintains one depth across its body.

A 5.2mm Air would reclaim Apple’s thinnest conventional iPhone title, but buyers should not treat the calculated figure or reported battery improvement as final until Apple publishes the device’s specifications.

The measurement reportedly excludes the camera plateau, which normally extends beyond the main chassis on thin iPhones.
