The new devices run on a smaller processor and custom modem
The upcoming premium phones will use the new A20 Pro processor, according to Debayan Roy (Gadgetsdata) on X. This new chip is built on a 2nm process. A smaller nanometer size means the processor can pack more power into the exact same amount of space. This change allows the phone to run faster while using significantly less battery life.
Alongside the main processor, Apple is bringing its own custom C2 modem to the new phones. This piece of hardware connects the device to cell towers around the world. By designing its own modem, the company gets total control over how the gadget handles internet connections. It could also bring support for satellite 5G, expanding coverage in remote areas where traditional networks struggle.
The premium phones receive major camera and battery capacity upgrades
The iPhone 18 Pro will not just rely on better chips to attract buyers. The leak details significant changes to the camera system. Users can expect a 48-megapixel main camera with a variable aperture, which helps the lens adjust to different lighting conditions. It also includes a 48-megapixel periscope telephoto lens to capture clearer zoomed images. For selfies, the front-facing camera gets a noticeable bump up to 24 megapixels.
Apple is keeping the familiar Dynamic Island design for the display, but the device will pack a much larger battery inside. Reports suggest the battery capacity will jump above 5000mAh, offering plenty of power to get through a heavy day of use without needing a charger.
The foldable phone features a thin profile and two large screens
Apple is also finalizing details for its very first foldable smartphone. This device features a book-style design that opens to reveal a massive 7.8-inch inner display. When closed, users can interact with a standard 5.5-inch outer screen. The company is using a liquid metal hinge to keep the internal display almost entirely crease-free.
When fully unfolded, the frame measures a super-thin 4.5 millimeters. It will run on the same powerful A20 Pro processor and C2 modem as the Pro models. However, the leak suggests the foldable version will rely on Touch ID instead of facial recognition for security.
The switch to custom modems and advanced folding screens highlights a major shift in how Apple builds its hardware. Consumers globally can expect noticeably faster speeds and better battery life once these premium devices hit store shelves later this fall.
