macOS 15.7.7 and 14.8.7 released alongside Apple’s latest software updates

Apple Releases Third RCs for macOS Sequoia 15.7.4 and macOS Sonoma 14.8.4

Apple has released macOS 15.7.7 (build 24G720) and macOS 14.8.7 (build 23J520) for older Macs that are not running the latest macOS Tahoe update. The new releases focus mainly on security improvements, bug fixes, and overall system stability instead of major new features.

The updates arrive alongside Apple’s broader software rollout and continue the company’s support for older Mac systems. If you are still using macOS Sequoia or macOS Sonoma, installing the latest version is recommended to keep your Mac secure and running smoothly.

How to update your Mac

  1. Open System Settings
  2. Click General
  3. Select Software Update
  4. Wait for your Mac to check for updates
  5. Click Update Now or Restart Now

Make sure your Mac is connected to Wi-Fi and plugged into power during the installation process.

All the changes

Apple has not listed any major user-facing features for macOS 15.7.7 or macOS 14.8.7. Instead, both updates mainly include important security patches, internal bug fixes, and performance improvements aimed at older supported Macs.

The releases appear to continue Apple’s recent pattern of maintaining previous macOS versions with regular security updates while newer features remain exclusive to macOS Tahoe. Build numbers for the updates are 24G720 for macOS 15.7.7 and 23J520 for macOS 14.8.7.

Users should also expect fixes for system reliability, app compatibility, and underlying macOS security vulnerabilities, although Apple has not yet published a detailed breakdown of all patched issues.

If you’ve already installed the update, let us know your experience in the comments.
