macOS 26.4 Release Candidate now available, here is what’s new


Apple has seeded the macOS 26.4 Release Candidate to developers and public beta testers, which means the public rollout is now close. This build arrives a week after beta 4 and is usually the final test version before the wider release.

How to update

Updating to macOS 26.4 Release Candidate is simple if your Mac is already enrolled in Apple’s beta program.

  1. Open System Settings
  2. Click General
  3. Select Software Update
  4. Turn on Beta Updates if needed
  5. Choose the macOS Tahoe beta option
  6. Download and install the update

All the Changes

Here are the main changes seen in macOS 26.4 so far:

  • Battery Charge Limit: MacBook users can now set a maximum charge level between 80% and 100%
  • Safari Compact tabs return: Apple has brought back the Compact tab layout in Safari
  • Rosetta warnings: Apple silicon Macs now show alerts when apps still rely on Rosetta 2
  • Window resize fix: Apple has fixed the pointer issue tied to resizing windows
  • New emoji: macOS 26.4 also adds new emoji characters
  • Freeform upgrades: Some new Freeform features are on the way for Creator Studio subscribers, including premium images, image upscaling, and support tied to AI image generation tools
