macOS Tahoe 26.2 brings a smart new feature called Edge Light, designed to improve how you look on video calls. It creates a soft glow around the edges of your Mac’s display, lighting up your face when the room is dark. The result feels natural and polished, without needing an actual ring light.
Edge Light uses the Neural Engine in your Mac to recognize your face, detect your size, and find your exact position in the frame. The Image Signal Processor then adjusts brightness and tone automatically, making sure the lighting blends perfectly with your environment.

If your cursor moves close to the screen’s edge, Edge Light gently fades out so you can see what you’re doing. You can also tweak the color temperature with a slider, choosing between a warm tone for softer lighting or a cool tone for a sharper look.
Works Across Your Favorite Video Apps
You’ll find Edge Light in the same menu as other video features like Portrait mode, Studio Light, Reactions, and Backgrounds. It works smoothly with all major video conferencing apps, including FaceTime, Zoom, and WebEx.
Edge Light supports every Mac powered by Apple Silicon, and it even works with external cameras and the Studio Display. If you own a Mac released in 2024 or later, the feature can turn on automatically when your Mac detects low light in the room.
Developers can already try Edge Light in the latest macOS Tahoe 26.2 beta. The public release is expected in December, bringing this lighting upgrade to everyone.
