Apple released macOS Tahoe 26.2 beta 1 earlier this month. The second developer beta is now rolling out to compatible Macs through Software Update. If you test pre-release software, install it on a secondary machine or make a full backup first.
How to update
- Back up your Mac.
- Open System Settings.
- Go to General > Software Update.
- Select Beta Updates, choose the developer beta channel, and return.
- Download and install macOS Tahoe 26.2 beta 2.
Whatās new in 26.2
General changes in this release include stability improvements, bug fixes, and under-the-hood updates for app and driver compatibility. The Edge Light option for video calls debuts here and can appear when your camera is active.
Expect minor UI tweaks aligned with the current Tahoe design language. Developers also get updated SDKs via Xcode 26.2 to test app behavior against the latest APIs.
If you are joining from the public beta track, the update appears in the same Software Update panel after you enroll and sign in with the correct Apple ID. Installation size and time vary by Mac model and your internet speed, so keep your machine connected to power during download and installation.
Should you install it?
If you file feedback or test app compatibility, this build moves Tahoe forward without dramatic changes. Most users should wait for the stable 26.2 release, but regular beta testers can update today to pick up fixes and the new calling effect. For official notes and known issues, review the release notes after updating.
