Siri AI arrives in beta with iOS 27 on Monday, September 14, and Apple has published exactly one age rule for it: “Siri AI is not available to users under 13.” That single sentence sits in a footnote of Apple’s September 9 press release, and it is the only age restriction Apple has attached to its new assistant.
Apple has published no age rule for Apple Intelligence as a whole, no description of how the age is established, and no route for a parent to grant access. The footnote around that line deals with the beta status, the English-first language rule, the device requirement and the daily usage limits, which is why the age sentence has gone almost unread.

The same block of small print carries the beta status across five operating systems, the line “Available in English to start,” and the daily usage limits that apply to server-side features “including but not limited to Siri AI, intelligent photo editing tools, Image Playground, and AFM 3 Cloud models in Shortcuts.”

It also carries the sentence “Expanded access to such features will be available for a fee in the future,” which is Apple confirming a paid tier without a price or a date. The age rule and the paid-tier rule are neighbours in the same paragraph of footnote text, and neither is stated in the body of any product page.

What it changes for a family updating on Monday
iOS 27 is a free update for iPhone 11 and later plus iPhone SE (2nd generation and later), so most family iPhones will be offered it. Apple Intelligence runs on a much shorter list: iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max and iPhone 16 or later, which includes the iPhone 18 Pro and its A20 Pro chip.
On any iPhone outside that list, Siri AI is not part of Monday’s update at all and the age rule never comes into play. Where the hardware does qualify and the person using the device is under 13, Apple’s published rule excludes Siri AI, and Apple has not said whether the rest of Apple Intelligence keeps working on that account.
