SpaceX has completed its $60 billion acquisition of Cursor, bringing one of the fastest-growing AI coding platforms under Elon Musk’s expanding artificial intelligence business. The deal officially became effective on August 14, 2026, after SpaceX first agreed to buy Cursor parent company Anysphere in June.

Cursor is officially part of SpaceX

Cursor confirmed that it has officially joined SpaceX, completing an acquisition process that began with an AI model-training partnership announced in April. The company said the deal will give its team access to SpaceX’s huge GPU infrastructure, allowing it to train stronger AI models while reducing the cost of running them.

SpaceX and Cursor were already working closely before the acquisition closed. In July, the companies jointly released Grok 4.5, an AI model trained for software engineering as well as tasks involving data science, finance, legal work and other computer-based workflows.

SpaceX strengthens its AI business

The $60 billion acquisition gives SpaceX direct control of a major developer platform as competition grows among companies building AI tools for programmers. Cursor has developed from an AI-powered code editor into a platform capable of handling longer software development tasks through AI agents.

The acquisition also gives Cursor considerably more computing capacity for developing its models. Cursor said access to SpaceX infrastructure will help the company build more capable models that cost less to operate.

With the deal now complete, Cursor will become an important part of SpaceX’s wider push into AI models, coding agents and enterprise software, while continuing development of its existing products for programmers.
