WhatsApp is preparing a major visual refresh for its Mac app as Meta continues expanding its Liquid Glass design language across its platforms. While the updated interface has only recently started reaching more iPhone users, development has already begun on bringing the same look and feel to macOS.
According to WABetaInfo, the new design is still under development and is not yet available to beta testers. However, an early preview reveals several interface changes that aim to make WhatsApp for Mac feel more modern and better aligned with macOS 26 Tahoe.

WhatsApp for Mac Gets a More Modern Look
The upcoming redesign goes beyond adding Liquid Glass effects. WhatsApp is also reworking key parts of the Mac experience, including the sidebar, chat tools, and privacy controls.
Users can expect a redesigned sidebar that displays both icons and text labels, making navigation easier and more descriptive. The update also introduces a refreshed chat bar, a redesigned attachment menu, and a dedicated section for locked chats.
According to WABetaInfo:
“In a future update, WhatsApp will finally align this design foundation on iPhone, iPad, and Mac. This means that the interface on iPad and Mac will be brought closer in style to the updated design on iPhone. With this update, WhatsApp will offer a more consistent experience with Liquid Glass regardless of the device being used.”
Improved Privacy for Locked Chats
WhatsApp also plans to improve privacy on Mac by moving locked chats into a dedicated section within the sidebar. Access to that area will require user authentication, bringing the Mac experience closer to the protections already available on iPhone.
The redesign remains under active development, but the changes suggest Meta is working toward a more unified WhatsApp experience across iPhone, iPad, and Mac while introducing a cleaner interface and stronger privacy features.
