Withings Now Charges New Users $99 a Year for Apple Health Syncing

Apple Drops Big Health+ Launch in Favor of Incremental Health Features

Withings has introduced a subscription requirement for new customers who want to automatically sync their health data with Apple Health. Starting October 13, 2026, users creating a new Withings account must subscribe to Withings+ for $99.50 annually or $9.95 monthly to access third-party syncing.

The change affects Withings smart scales, smartwatches, and other connected health devices. Previously, users could transfer measurements such as weight, body composition, and other supported health metrics directly to Apple’s Health app without paying an additional fee.

Existing Withings Users Can Still Sync for Free

According to Withings’ support community, accounts created on or before October 12, 2026, will retain free automatic syncing, even when users purchase newer Withings devices.

The company says recent API changes and additional privacy measures prompted the new subscription requirement, which also affects Google’s Health Connect integration.

New customers can still access their measurements through the Withings app without subscribing. However, automatic exports to Apple Health require an active membership, while manual CSV and PDF exports remain available for free.

Withings Faces Backlash Over Apple Health Paywall

The decision has drawn criticism from customers who consider Apple Health integration an essential feature of connected health devices.

Several users have questioned why syncing through Apple’s HealthKit framework now requires a paid subscription, particularly when the integration previously worked without additional charges.

As we previously covered, Apple provides developers with HealthKit integration tools and a dedicated compatibility badge for supported apps.

The subscription requirement also adds another recurring expense for customers who already pay for premium health-monitoring hardware. Withings has not announced plans to reverse the decision.
