iPhone Duo has four cameras: a 48MP Main and a 48MP Ultra Wide on the back, a 12MP Center Stage camera on the outer display, and an under-display FaceTime camera behind the inner display. Apple calls the rear pair the 48MP Dual Fusion camera system, and there is no separate telephoto lens.

The 48MP Dual Fusion rear cameras
Both rear cameras use 48MP sensors. The Main camera has a 26 mm equivalent lens at f/1.6 with sensor-shift optical image stabilization, and Apple’s press release adds that it shoots with zero shutter lag. The Ultra Wide has a 13 mm lens at f/2.2 with a 120-degree field of view, and Apple says it matches the Ultra Wide in the iPhone 18 Pro.

Zoom comes from cropping rather than glass. Apple describes the Main camera as having an integrated optical-quality 2x telephoto, which produces 12MP images from the center of the 48MP sensor, and lists a 4x optical zoom range from the 13 mm Ultra Wide to that 2x crop, with digital zoom up to 10x.

Why there is no telephoto lens
Apple has not said why the Duo skips a dedicated telephoto. The obvious constraint is thickness: the open phone is 5.2 mm, which leaves little room for a telephoto lens stack, so Apple’s 2x telephoto here is a sensor crop rather than a third lens.
The result is that anything past 2x is digital. The iPhone 18 Pro keeps its telephoto lens and adds a variable-aperture Main camera, which we break down in our iPhone 18 Pro camera explainer, so photographers who shoot at long focal lengths have a clear reason to pick the Pro.
Two front cameras, one for each display
The outer display carries a 12MP Center Stage camera at f/2.2 that records 4K Dolby Vision video at 24 to 60 fps. It is the camera you use when the phone is closed and behaves like the front camera on any other iPhone.
The inner display hides a FaceTime camera at f/1.8 that records 1080p video at 30 to 60 fps. Apple has not published its megapixel count, and it does not support Face ID, because the Duo authenticates with Touch ID in the side button instead.
Camera Control, processing and editing
The Duo has a Camera Control button, and Apple’s press release adds a Siri Camera mode to it, though Apple has not described what that mode does beyond the name. The photo pipeline lists Night mode, Deep Fusion, Smart HDR 5, Smart Focus subject tracking, Photographic Styles 3 with tone, color, texture and grain controls, Spatial Reframing, the Extend tool and an enhanced Clean Up tool.
Four features are exclusive to the Duo: Smart Take, Duo Preview, Kid Cue and Duo FaceTime, all of which use the outer display while the rear cameras are pointed at someone else. Apple has not published whether the Duo supports Apple Reference Image, the verified-original feature announced for iPhone 18 Pro.
