While the iPhone 16 launch is just around the corner, rumors are already swirling about the iPhone 17. According to a report from The Information, next year’s flagship (or would it be iPhone Slim?) could see a big camera upgrade with a mechanical aperture system.
A mechanical aperture allows photographers to physically adjust the lens opening, giving them more control over depth of field. This would be a big step up from Apple’s current Portrait Mode, which uses software to achieve a similar effect. The report suggests this feature might be exclusive to the higher-end iPhone 17 models, possibly the Pro Max or a rumored “Slim” variant.
Beyond the headline-grabbing aperture, rumors point to three 48-megapixel lenses on iPhone Pros. Apple might also shrink the notch and increase the base display size to 6.3 inches.
