Anthropic has introduced a major new capability to its artificial intelligence chatbot, allowing users to connect their bank and credit card accounts directly to the platform. Launched on November 5, 2026, the Personal Finance feature in Claude acts as a conversational money assistant. It lets people ask plain language questions about their spending habits, current account balances, and upcoming bills without needing to dig through monthly bank statements themselves.
Users link accounts to review spending and track cash flow
The system connects to financial institutions using Plaid, giving the AI access to up to two years of transaction history, account names, and credit limits. Right now, this tool is rolling out as a beta test for subscribers on the Pro, Max, and Ultra plans in the United States. People can use it on the web or through the Mac desktop app.
People can also use a configurable dashboard to view their finances, but the real draw is asking direct questions. You might ask where your money went last month or check if you have enough to cover a specific bill before payday. Instead of manually crunching numbers, the system processes the linked data and explains the transactions behind its answers. OpenAI added a similar tool to ChatGPT earlier in the year, showing a broader trend among major tech companies.

Anthropic limits access to read only data for better privacy
Security is a clear focus for this update. The connection is entirely read-only, meaning the tool cannot actually move your money. You cannot use it to pay bills, transfer funds, cancel subscriptions, or make any investments. Anthropic also notes that the tool is not built to offer investment advice, and users should always verify important numbers directly with their banks since data delays can happen.
When you use the finance hub, those conversations are kept private. They are not used to train future language models, nor do they enter the shared memory of the chatbot. You also will not see any ads or sponsored financial product recommendations while using it.
This update turns the chatbot from a general writing and coding assistant into a practical tool for managing household budgets. As the beta expands, the real test will be how accurately it interprets messy bank transaction data and whether people feel comfortable handing over their financial history to a third party.
