Apple seeded iOS 26.3 beta 1 to developers on Monday, December 15, and the first public beta is now available to anyone enrolled in Apple’s Beta Software Program.
This first beta uses build number 23D5089e and continues Apple’s holiday-season pattern: a smaller update that focuses on a few targeted additions rather than a long list of headline features.
How to update to iOS 26.3 public beta 1
- Open Settings
- Tap General
- Tap Software Update
- Tap Beta Updates
- Choose iOS 26 Public Beta
- Go back, then tap Download and Install
Before you install, back up your iPhone. Betas can bring battery drain, app bugs, and random UI glitches.
Changes in iOS 26.3 beta 1
iOS 26.3 beta 1 adds three changes that stand out so far.
Transfer to Android
Apple is adding a new transfer tool that helps you move from an iPhone to an Android phone. The idea is simple: place the devices near each other to start the transfer, then move items like photos, messages, notes, apps, passwords, and more without installing a separate app.
Notification Forwarding
A new Notification Forwarding setting lets your iPhone forward notifications to a third-party wearable, such as an Android smartwatch. Apple limits it to one device at a time, which means enabling it can stop an Apple Watch from receiving those notifications. The option is also limited to the European Union.
Weather wallpapers get their own section
Lock Screen customization now separates Weather into a dedicated category, instead of bundling it with Astronomy. You also get a small set of pre-designed Weather wallpaper presets to show different layouts and widget styles.
If you install iOS 26.3 beta 1, share what you are seeing so far, including bugs and battery life, in the comments.
