According to a recent claim, the iPhone 18 Pro Max sold in China will feature a battery rated at around 5,000mAh. The international version is expected to go slightly higher, with early units reportedly falling in the 5,100mAh to 5,200mAh range. While this is not a dramatic jump on paper, Apple appears to rely on efficiency gains rather than raw capacity alone.

The information comes from a post shared by “Digital Chat Station” on Weibo. The tipster wrote, “From supply chain information, the China version of the iPhone 18 Pro Max battery capacity will reach around 5000mAh, while the international version samples reach a maximum of 5100 to 5200mAh. Combined with the 2nm A20 Pro chip, battery life is worth expecting.” The statement points to Apple’s next-generation processor as the key reason for better endurance.
Battery sizes differ by region
The difference between Chinese and international models comes down to internal space. China-specific versions still include a physical SIM slot. International models rely on eSIM only. That small hardware change frees up extra room for a larger battery.
This approach is not new. For reference, the iPhone 17 Pro Max with a physical SIM reportedly uses a 4,832mAh battery. The eSIM-only version increases that figure to about 5,088mAh. Apple seems to follow the same pattern with the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
The battery numbers alone do not tell the full story. The upcoming A20 Pro chip, built on a 2nm process, should improve power efficiency across daily tasks. That means longer screen time and better standby performance, even if the capacity increase looks modest.
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 18 Pro lineup in September. Reports also suggest the company may skip standard iPhone 18 models this year, marking a shift in its usual release cycle.
