iPhone 17 Center Stage Front Camera Explained in Apple’s Latest Ad

Apple shared a new ad showing how the upgraded Center Stage front camera on the iPhone 17 lineup improves group selfies. The focus stays on how the camera adjusts in real time as more people step into the frame. The result is a wider, cleaner shot without the usual shuffling or awkward arm angles.

In the ad, Apple says, “Watch how the new front-facing camera on iPhone 17 Pro takes group selfies that automatically expand and rotate as more people come into frame.” The clip centers on the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, but the same feature also appears on the iPhone 17 and iPhone Air.

Apple explained this behavior earlier in its product notes. Users no longer need to rotate the phone to switch between portrait and landscape selfies. The camera handles that shift on its own while keeping faces centered and the grip steady. For group photos, Center Stage uses on-device AI to expand the field of view and rotate when needed so everyone fits naturally.

All iPhone 17 models use an 18-megapixel Center Stage front camera with a square image sensor, including the new iPhone Air. That setup supports automatic framing for both photos and videos, making group selfies faster and more consistent without extra steps.
