Apple is preparing to launch its highly anticipated first foldable phone, widely known as the iPhone Fold, later this year. Recent rumors suggested that serious hardware hurdles could push the release date into early 2027. However, Mark Gurman for Bloomberg suggests the company is firmly sticking to its original timeline.
Apple plans to debut the folding device right alongside the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro models this September. Notably, the source mentioned the same thing in a newsletter earlier this month as well.

The company pushes past hardware hurdles to stay on schedule
Building a folding screen involves complex mechanical parts. Apple ran into several snags during the early testing phases of the device. These hurdles made many people think the phone would be delayed for months. Despite these setbacks, the company worked closely with parts suppliers to fix the flaws.
Trial production is already underway. Apple plans to manufacture around seven to eight million units for the initial release. While that number is small compared to regular iPhone sales, it shows the company is ready to bring the product to market.
A limited supply hits store shelves with the Pro models
Even though the foldable phone is moving forward, getting your hands on one might be tough at first. Apple will release the device in September, directly alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. Because of the lower production numbers, supply will be tight in the United States and other key regions.
If you miss the first wave of sales, you might have to wait a bit longer to buy one. Interestingly, the standard version of the iPhone 18 is getting pushed back to early 2027 to make room for this new lineup.
