Anyone who types on a smartphone knows the delete key is annoying. The erase speed often feels completely random, and fixing a long mistake takes too much time. Eli Guerron is a clever designer who used to work for Apple. He decided to finally fix this specific problem. He shared a fresh idea for the iPhone backspace button to make typo corrections much easier.
Stretching the delete button gives you exact erasing speed control
Currently, people just press and hold the delete key to fix errors. This standard method works well for fixing a few letters. However, erasing whole sentences often deletes too much text by mistake. The default keyboard basically just copies how physical buttons operate.
Guerron completely changed this basic interaction. His cool concept lets you tap normally for single letters. To delete more text, you press the button and slide it to the left. Pulling the button further away instantly increases the deletion speed on the screen.
A blank glass screen does not have physical hardware limits. When a company builds its operating system, it has the freedom to rethink basic tools. Adding a stretching motion to the delete key is a small change. Yet, it solves a big frustration. We hope to see this added soon.
