Apple recently purchased a small German firm to improve the color correction tools inside its creative software lineup. The tech giant usually makes headlines for massive deals, like its famous three-billion-dollar buyout of Beats. This latest move sits on the exact opposite end of the scale. It involves a single developer and a specialized web application focused entirely on color management and digital imaging.
European listings reveal the quiet purchase of a one-person team
European Union records confirm Apple bought a company named Patchflyer. German business filings show the firm has exactly one employee, managing director Jonathan Marvin Ochmann. For eleven years, Ochmann operated the business and built an application called Color.io. The European Union database describes this software as a web-based tool meant for color management and the grading of digital images.
Patchflyer notes on its own website that it develops tools for color science, spatial measurements, and acoustic modeling. This specific expertise in color grading is highly useful for video and photo editing. Because of this, the purchase makes perfect sense for the Creator Studio bundle.
The tech giant will likely integrate these new tools into applications like Final Cut Pro and Pixelmator Pro. This move benefits users who edit media on a Mac or rely on the touch interface of an iPad for their creative projects.
The price of the deal remains a secret. It is probably one of the smallest amounts the company has ever spent on an acquisition. Filings suggest the buyout happened around October 2025. Right now, the original Patchflyer website is mostly empty, featuring broken links and missing pages.
