If you use an iPhone, you have probably accidentally pressed the dictation or voice message button while trying to send a text. It is a common problem because the icon sits right next to the send arrow in the Messages app. A stray tap often pauses your music and starts recording, which can be a real hassle. Now, Apple is finally offering a way to fix this layout issue.
A new setting allows you to clean up your text field
The issue gained wider attention recently when pop star Justin Bieber publicly complained that the send button and recording functions were placed too close together. In the upcoming iOS 27 and iPadOS 27 updates, the company has added a simple toggle to solve the problem.

To remove the button, you just need to open your Settings app and scroll down to the Apps section. From there, tap on Messages and look for a new option called “Show in Text Field.” The menu gives you three choices: Record Audio, Start Dictation, or None. Selecting “None” completely removes the extra icons from your text box, leaving you with a clean space and a send arrow that is much harder to miss.
If you still want to send occasional voice messages without cluttering the screen, you can always use the plus button to the left of the input field. The dictation tool is also still available using the microphone key located at the bottom right corner of your keyboard.
