Spoilers ahead for The Westies Season 1, Episode 5
The previous episodes established a fragile agreement between Eamon’s Westies and the Italian Mafia. However, Jimmy’s interest in cocaine and Gotti’s growing ambitions have made that peace increasingly difficult to maintain.
Eamon allows Jimmy to buy cocaine from Leon, although Jimmy must make the operation appear independent. Eamon wants to profit from the deal without openly breaking Paul Castellano’s order against drug trafficking.
Charlie secretly informs Gotti about the plan. During the exchange, Charlie shoots Leon and tries to steal both the cocaine and the money. Mickey Flanagan, who has been watching nearby, kills Charlie before he can escape.
Jimmy and Mickey return with the drugs and Eamon’s money. Eamon tells Jimmy to keep the operation quiet and find another supplier. Castellano already knows what the Westies are doing, but he refuses to let Gotti kill them because he sees their drug trade as a problem that will eventually destroy them.
Gotti makes Jimmy an offer
Gotti approaches Jimmy and Mickey with a proposal. He can connect them with Latin American suppliers, but he wants half of their cocaine business in return.
Jimmy now faces an impossible position. Refusing Gotti could start another war, while accepting the offer would place him directly against Eamon and Castellano.
Elsewhere, FBI agent Birdie Polk forces Keenan to wear a wire and accuse Eddie Breen of working with federal authorities. The plan fails after Eamon’s men discover the recording device and brutally attack Keenan. The FBI’s knowledge of his location prevents them from killing him.
Bridget also helps Brendan obtain explosives for an attack against Colonel Markham. After the supplier delivers the Semtex, Brendan kills him instead of paying the agreed $50,000, leaving Bridget disturbed by the violence and trapped inside an increasingly reckless plot.
Episode 5 leaves Jimmy caught between two mob bosses, Keenan exposed as an informant, and Bridget facing the deadly consequences of Brendan’s revenge mission. Which storyline do you think will cause the most damage before the season finale? Let us know in the comments.
