What to expect from Women in Blue Season 2 Episode 2
Spoilers for the Season 2 premiere follow.
The opening episode, titled “Mauricio,” begins María’s next chapter after her promotion to lieutenant. María and the Azules investigate the murder of a college student, but the case quickly starts pointing beyond a straightforward killing.
Episode 2 should move that investigation closer to the events surrounding Mexico’s 1968 student massacre. Apple has confirmed that the murder of the student activist eventually leads the Azules toward people connected to that period, while another body sends shock waves through the police department.
That connection gives María a difficult problem because her new position comes with greater authority as well as greater pressure to follow department rules. As the investigation expands, she has to decide how far she can push when the evidence starts leading toward people and events that others may prefer to leave buried.
The Azules face a different kind of case this season
Season 1 followed María, Valentina, Gabina and Ángeles as they joined Mexico’s first female police force in 1971 and discovered that the program had largely been created as a publicity move while a serial killer targeted women across the city. The four women eventually began their own investigation while dealing with discrimination inside the department.
Season 2 gives them more experience and responsibility, but their latest case appears broader and more politically sensitive. The murder investigation reaches back to the violence surrounding Mexico’s student movement, while a killer begins targeting people connected to that history.
María’s promotion also changes the group dynamic because she now operates closer to the department leadership. Episode 2 should begin showing whether that position helps the Azules get answers or makes their investigation harder as they uncover more connections.
Women in Blue Season 2 Episode 2 streams Wednesday, August 19, on Apple TV. With the new investigation already expanding beyond the student’s murder, the next episode should give the Azules their first clearer indication of who they are dealing with and why the past has suddenly become dangerous again.
