The folding phone market is about to see a big shift in how screens are built, thanks to a new method from Apple. The upcoming foldable device is expected to feature a brand-new display design that greatly reduces the visible fold line in the middle of the screen. Now, reports indicate that several major Android phone makers are already planning to borrow this smart design for their own future devices.
Apple tackled the folding screen problem by using two separate layers of ultra-thin glass. This new iPhone Ultra method sandwiches the display safely between these two glass layers. This setup keeps the delicate screen away from the hinge mechanism and spreads out the physical stress when you open and close the phone. The end result is a much smoother look that resists wearing down over time.
Samsung will mass produce the new glass panels for rivals
According to a recent report from The Elec, companies like Google, Oppo, and Vivo are looking to use this very same dual-layer approach next year. Even though Apple came up with the idea, Samsung will actually be the one manufacturing these new glass parts for the Android market.
