WhatsApp Will Let Users Chat With Up To Five Third-Party Bots

WhatsApp Now Lets You Save Usernames When Adding New Contacts

The popular messaging platform WhatsApp is changing how it handles automated helpers. In the past, people risked getting their accounts banned if they tried plugging outside tools into the service. This strict policy pushed many users toward competing chat applications. Now, the company is changing its approach by testing a native feature that lets anyone connect external smart chatbots directly into the interface without breaking any rules.

The new update provides secure access to custom bots

Based on a recent discovery by WABetaInfo, the platform will give you a special key to link an outside AI agent straight to your account. You just paste this code into your bot provider’s setup screen. Once linked, the agent gets its own dedicated chat window inside the app.

You can run up to five different agents on a single account. The interface lets you give each one a custom name and a profile picture to tell them apart. Right now, these agents only work in one-on-one chats. You cannot pull them into your group messages or larger community channels.

Or get it by email

Privacy limits are also built into the update. The bot only reads what you type directly to it in that specific chat. It has no access to your other conversations, contacts, or media files. However, the company notes that messages sent to a third-party artificial intelligence are not end-to-end encrypted right now. You should also double-check the answers you get, since bots still make mistakes.

A small group of Android beta testers can already try this feature. It should roll out to everyone else soon, turning the platform into a much more capable tool for automation and quick assistance.
