Apple has begun rolling out firmware version 9A348 for AirPods Pro 2, AirPods Pro 3, AirPods 4, and AirPods Max 2. The update is designed to enable the new AirPods experience in iOS 27, including a redesigned settings screen, custom EQ controls, and new Siri AI integration on compatible iPhones.
The firmware arrives a day after iOS 27 became available. The software update on the iPhone supplies much of the new interface, while the AirPods update lets supported earbuds use those controls. It will not arrive as a button in Settings, so it may take time to appear.
What the new AirPods firmware enables
Custom EQ is one of the more visible additions. It gives users a way to tune sound without relying on a music app’s own equalizer. iOS 27 also changes the AirPods settings layout and adds a control for Adaptive Audio, making it easier to adjust how much environmental sound comes through.

Siri AI support depends on both the AirPods model and the paired iPhone. Some features, including GymKit support and Precision Finding from Apple Watch, have narrower hardware requirements. The safest way to check what applies is to open the AirPods settings page after the update reaches the earbuds.

Apple installs AirPods firmware automatically. Put the AirPods in their charging case, connect the case to power, keep it near an iPhone, iPad, or Mac with Wi-Fi, and leave the lid closed for at least 30 minutes. Apple’s firmware update instructions explain the same process and note that there is no manual install control.
