Apple is updating its Final Cut Camera app to support the variable aperture system on the new iPhone 18 Pro. The free update gives video creators much more control over how footage looks while filming. Final Cut Camera operates as a companion application for Final Cut Pro on the iPad, letting you capture live multicamera setups or shoot standard video with better manual settings.
Change aperture settings and monitor video scopes while filming
The biggest change in this release is the ability to manually adjust the aperture on the Fusion Main camera of the newest iPhone. Users can select different f-stops ranging from f/1.48 to f/4. You also get the option to choose between shutter priority and aperture priority modes while recording your videos.
The update brings Cinematic mode effects to standard video recordings, which include footage shot in ProRes and Apple Log. To help you get the lighting right, the app now supports video scopes like the RGB parade and a histogram. You will also find false color and clipping indicators with threshold settings to dial in your exposure properly.

Professional video teams can now get a clean video feed for broadcast streams by plugging in an HDMI-to-SDI converter. The software also includes a genlock frame delay setting. This helps fix visual glitches or manage timing delays when working with other synced cameras on a set.
To use these new video tools, you just need to download the latest version of the app and make sure your phone runs iOS 26.6 or newer. These added manual controls make it much easier to shoot great-looking video without needing a bulky external camera setup.
