Leaker Says Apple Considered 16GB of RAM for iPhone Duo

Apple reportedly considered equipping iPhone Duo with 16GB of RAM during development before moving to a lower capacity. The claim concerns an abandoned plan, not a specification Apple has announced for the shipping phone.

The report comes from a brief Weibo post by Instant Digital, which also names the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. The post does not say when the decision changed or provide documentation that independently confirms the earlier configuration.

Apple does not list RAM on its public iPhone specification pages. Reports have instead pointed to 12GB for iPhone Duo, although the Xcode data used to identify memory in the iPhone 18 Pro models did not include the foldable at the time of the latest checks.

Why the distinction matters

A development target can change for cost, supply, thermal or power reasons, and it does not show that a finished product was downgraded at the last minute. The claim therefore should not be treated as a confirmed explanation for the device’s final design.

Memory could matter more on iPhone Duo because its inner display supports multitasking and adaptable layouts. Apple has given developers new simulator tools for testing Duo apps, but it has not described how much memory those experiences require.

The confirmed timeline is clearer than the memory report. Apple says iPhone Duo ships with iOS 27.1, with pre-orders opening October 16 and availability beginning October 23. Independent teardowns after release may establish the installed capacity, but they cannot prove an earlier prototype specification.
