Apple Will Require iPhone Duo Screenshots for App Submissions in 2027

Apple will require every app or game submitted through App Store Connect to include screenshots for iPhone Duo beginning in April 2027. Developers can add the new assets now, but the requirement does not take effect at the phone’s October launch.

Apple disclosed the deadline in its iPhone Duo submission guidance. The company has also published updated screenshot and app-preview specifications, downloadable design templates and a preview tool for checking how product pages appear on the foldable device.

The screenshot rule is separate from Apple’s broader requirement that future submissions use current operating-system SDKs. MacObserver previously explained why the April 2027 SDK deadline and iPhone Duo readiness are different obligations.

What changes in April

From April 2027, a developer updating an existing app will need to provide iPhone Duo imagery as part of the submission package. Apple has not said that every app must add a fold-specific feature, but its guidance encourages adaptive layouts that use the larger inner display instead of simply centering an older phone interface.

Teams can prepare with Xcode 27.1, which includes development support for the Duo and tools for viewing apps across its poses and orientations. The simulator has several known limitations, so developers should still test on shipping hardware when it becomes available.

For users, the new assets should make it easier to see whether an app has been designed with the inner display in mind. They do not guarantee that every screen or workflow has been optimized, so screenshots remain a preview rather than proof of complete Duo support.
