If you managed to secure an order for the foldable iPhone Duo, you are getting a nice software surprise right out of the gate. Support for the Apple Pencil is arriving next week, far ahead of schedule. The feature is packaged inside the new iOS 27.2 software release. This means buyers will not have to wait until the end of the year to start drawing or taking notes on their new screens.

The update drops sooner than the expected December timeline

When the tech company showed off the phone in September, it noted that stylus features would come later this year. Many people assumed this meant a standard December release window for Apple to roll out the needed software.

Instead, the feature is ready right now. Leaker Max Weinbach confirmed on social media that the current release candidate for the iOS update already has the stylus functionality up and running.

If you are running the release candidate version on your hardware today, the feature works immediately. For everyone else sticking to the regular public software track, you can expect the download to hit your device around Monday, October 26.

Only the budget stylus model works with the new screen

Before you get too excited and grab just any stylus from your bag, you need to check which version you own. The new foldable iPhone will not work with the premium Pro model or the older standard versions of the stylus.

You must use the specific Apple Pencil (USB-C) model to interact with the folding display. If you already use that budget model for your iPad, you are good to go. Otherwise, you will need to buy the USB-C version to take advantage of the fresh software.

Having stylus support ready so close to launch day gives the foldable device a lot more value right out of the box. Early buyers can jump straight into testing out how well the screen handles note taking and sketching without waiting for a holiday software patch.
