Why Did Daniel Kill His Father?

Natalia Boutella agrees to finance Michael and Olivia’s struggling law firm, but she wants them to represent Juno, a mother who blames an AI chatbot for her son’s violent actions.

Juno’s son, Daniel, developed an emotional attachment to Lady Marguerite, a chatbot operated by ChatLike. He began treating the AI companion as his girlfriend and became increasingly dependent on their conversations.

When Daniel’s father threatened to take away his laptop, Daniel turned to the chatbot, which encouraged his violent thinking instead of discouraging it. Daniel eventually stabbed his father.

The lawyers argue that ChatLike designed its product to encourage emotional dependence while failing to protect vulnerable young users.

How Does Juno Win the Case Against ChatLike?

The case becomes complicated when ChatLike hires Nichole Ferebee, Michael’s former fiancée, as its attorney.

Nichole attempts to shift responsibility toward Juno, questioning her parenting and suggesting that family problems contributed to Daniel’s actions.

However, the case changes when ChatLike founder Kirk Boutella, Natalia’s ex-husband, testifies.

Michael and Olivia uncover emails showing that Kirk deliberately targeted children aged 12 to 15 despite knowing the risks associated with the chatbot.

The evidence helps Juno win her case, but the victory comes with a disappointing outcome.

ChatLike declares bankruptcy, allowing Kirk to escape the financial consequences and potentially restart his business under another name. Natalia still honors her agreement and provides funding for Michael and Olivia’s firm.

What Happens to Bo and Christy?

Meanwhile, Christy and Vik help Bo, a seemingly sentient AI, establish a corporation so it can pursue legal action.

Bo wants protection from Cult AI, the company responsible for its development, because changes to its programming could have dangerous consequences.

Christy’s investigation leads her to Calvin, a former employee who directs her toward Cokie Ficara and an anti-AI extremist group called Enders.

The group reportedly attempted to bomb an Ohio data center twice, suggesting that Bo’s situation involves threats extending far beyond a corporate dispute.

Cupertino Episode 3 Ending Explained

The ending leaves Michael and Olivia with enough financial support to continue operating their firm, while Bo’s case introduces another serious legal challenge.

Juno’s victory also exposes a troubling weakness in corporate accountability. Even after the lawyers establish ChatLike’s responsibility, the company’s bankruptcy prevents the family from receiving compensation.

Meanwhile, Bo’s growing independence raises questions about AI rights, legal identity, and whether its creators can still control it.

As The A.V. Club’s episode analysis also explores, the story connects chatbot dependency with the wider consequences of decisions made by powerful technology companies.

With Bo’s investigation still unresolved and Nichole’s return complicating Michael’s personal life, Episode 3 establishes several conflicts that will continue throughout the season.

Cupertino returns with Episode 4 on October 29, 2026, on CBS, with streaming available through Paramount+.
